One Athlete's Mind
Last Sunday was the day all Canadian cross country skiers had been waiting for, the day they would find out if they were named to a National Development Center (NDC). And if they were, which one it would be. So in my case, I received the news that I had been nominated to the NDC in Thunder Bay. After a day or so of giving this great thought, I decided the team in Thunder Bay would be an awesome place for me to live and train, and I accepted my nomination.
Having grown up in the Ontario skiing system, I already know all of the other athletes on the team very well, as well as the Head Coach, Eric Bailey. Eric was one of my coaches for both my World Junior Championships trip to Europe, as well as the Canada Winter Games team for Ontario. I had a great time working with him during both of these trips, and am very excited to have him as my new full time coach.
With this new placement, I will obviously have a fairly busy month or so ahead of me. I'll be heading back to Canmore this Thursday, April 28th, to pack up all my valuables and say my farewells to friends there. The following Friday, May 6th, I'll then be on a plane for Thunder Bay. I don't have a house lined up yet, but as I mentioned before, I have lots of friends there who are so generously allowing me to crash on their floors until I get a place of my own.
